Hats off to the 1960's

A celebration of the bygone days when fashionable women (and men) actually wore hats. During the 1950's ultra-feminine hats with lots of floral trim were popular. Hats were being fashioned to set off the hair style instead of wreak havoc with it. Garden parties helped make big brimmed hats popular. New man made fabrics were used and synthetic straw was first used. Cocktail hats were also very popular.

During the early 60's the Pillbox hat was popularized by Jackie Kennedy. Sadly by the middle of the decade hat's were falling out of favor due to hair style changes. Hats were now considered restrictive and establishment, hair was more important.
