Why so "infamous"? The name may be unfortunate, but the resulting look is quite elegant for early-1940s swimwear, and shows McCardell's genius in coming up with beautiful and practical designs.
I agree with you, Claire is one of my favorite designers. That was a typo on my part and I have corrected it. Thanks for pointing it out.
